“Jewel” is a 2.5 x 3.5″, or ACEO-sized, miniature painting; I took pictures as I went along and thought it would be fun to share them here.
I started out with a rough sketch based on a photo reference that I took, then painted in the background.
Here I’ve blocked in the base flesh tone.
Blocking in basic features and shadows on the skin, and a base layer for the wings.
More color blocking.
Refining the face and adding some highlights to the corset.
Adding pattern and detail to the corset.
Refining the wings and adding background elements. Rough indications of where the hair should be.
Hair completed.
Finally, refinements of the skin tone and necklace.
And it’s done!
(And it’s shiny.)
