The Descendant

Painted using Albrecht Dürer’s self portrait from the year 1500 as a loose reference. As I worked on this I considered what it is that we carry on from our ancestors and collective human endeavor. I was also struck by some qualities in Dürer’s self portrait that could be described as feminine, and wanted to show male beauty — inside and out — beyond the usual expectations and constraints.
