Faraway

I painted this in the mountains of North Carolina. The surrounding trees and birdsong took me out of the stream of time and sitting on the hillside outside my little cabin, I began to paint a face. The features that emerged told a story of a wounded recluse, a soldier coming home from war to the stillness of this mountain forest. Someone who is changed by experience, unfortunate enough to be empathetic in a cruel world, but having just enough good humor to bear it.
